Japanese celebrate this day with a long sushi roll to fill their stomach. It’s not allowed to talk while eating it but the person has to imagine his/her hope during this enjoyment. I guess it implies the hope for reborn as spring injects new life energy to everything.

So I sat in silence with my eyes closed. Each bite was filled with my hope for life.

▴ Yabu made this! It’s called Ehoumaki 恵方巻き(えほうまき)

▴ Also another activity is to throw beans (any beans) to keep the evil spirits away.
